YSI Parent & Player Code of Conduct

At YSI we are committed to providing a safe, enjoyable, and developmental environment for our players. To maintain a positive and respectful atmosphere, we require all parents and players to adhere to the following Code of Conduct.

For Parents:

  • Positive Encouragement: Always encourage your child and their teammates with positive remarks. Applaud good plays by both your child’s team and their opponents.
  • Respect for Officials and Coaches: Respect the decisions of referees and coaches. Any disagreements should be handled discreetly and away from the presence of players.
  • Sportsmanship: Encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials, and spectators at every game, practice, or other sporting events.
  • Attendance and Punctuality: Ensure your child attends practices and games on time, and inform coaches in advance if your child will be absent.
  • Avoid Coaching from the Sideline: While it is tempting to coach from the sideline, this can often confuse players and undermine our philosophy, the coach’s plans, and instructions.

For Players:

  • Team Commitment: Attend practices and games unless previously excused for a valid reason. Always strive to do your best, both in sports and in your responsibilities as a team member.
  • Respect: Show respect to your teammates, opponents, coaches, and officials. Never engage in any form of bullying (verbal or physical) or unsportsmanlike conduct.
  • Listen and Learn: Listen to your coaches' instructions and feedback and apply them during games and practices.
  • Sportsmanship: Demonstrate good sportsmanship both on and off the field. Congratulate opponents on a good performance and avoid any negative behaviors.
  • Enjoy the Game: Remember that the goal of playing soccer is to develop your skills and enjoy the game. Winning is not everything.

By adhering to this Code of Conduct, we can together create a more enjoyable, safe, and respectful environment for everyone involved with YSI.
